Oral fluids include saliva, sputum from the lungs and throat, and nose drainage. The body will absorb drugs whether they are swallowed, snorted or ingested. As a result, any oral fluid can be used for drug testing.
Blood serum and oral fluid are very similar, so anything in the oral fluid ends up in the blood. The consequence is that if it’s in the blood, it’s in the brain too, and therefore the person may be deemed under the influence.
